Overview of Position:

The Lab Courier is responsible for the timely, safe and accurate pick-up and delivery of medical records, test results, images, specimens, etc., among the hospital, medical offices, lab and other designated locations. The incumbent in must be flexible, responsible, organized, courteous and promote professional interactions with co-workers. Responsible for maintaining accurate trip logs for recordkeeping and billing purposes. This position reports to the shift supervisor on duty.

JOB SUMMARY
The Lab Courier is responsible for the timely, safe and accurate pick-up and delivery of medical records, test results, images, specimens, etc., among the hospital, medical offices, lab and other designated locations. The incumbent in must be flexible, responsible, organized, courteous and promote professional interactions with co-workers. Responsible for maintaining accurate trip logs for recordkeeping and billing purposes. This position reports to the shift supervisor on duty.
      

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    Delivers medical specimens, mail, and packages as appropriate to the position and temperature regulations, following safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
2.    Transport specimens-records and other items utilizing company vehicles in a safe and professional manner. 
3.    Complete daily vehicle pre‐trip and post trip inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness. 
4.    Prepares and maintains accurate transportation logs, vehicle fuel consumption logs, and other data as required.
5.    Must be able to understand and operate GPS devices, 2-way radios, and cell phones.
6.    Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned.
7.    Performs start of shift vehicle and equipment check, ensuring the vehicle and equipment is clean and ready for use.
8.    Adhere to and follow all policies and procedures concerning safety and contamination by bloodborne pathogens
9.    Keep accurate logs of their trips for recordkeeping and billing purposes, completing, and submitting paperwork at the end of their shift.
10.    Conduct yourself in a professional manner following the three P’s of Genesis Community Ambulance, Pride, Proficiency, and professionalism.
11.    Report any day to day incidents, equipment malfunctions, or supply shortages in writing to the duty supervisor prior to the end of your shift. 
12.    Ensure the punctual collection and delivery of medical items from healthcare facilities.
13.    Respond to all deliveries/STATS/pick-ups with optimal response times, work expediently to assure availability of vehicle, and perform in such a manner as to maximize vehicle utilization and productivity.
14.    Must remain professional thus promoting positive public relations for Community Ambulance Service.
15.    Must be able to communicate clearly with clients to assure proper care and deliver of all items.
16.    Follow Chain of Custody policies by providing and obtaining signatures for specific pick-up and delivers.


QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. 
2.    Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be eligible for driving privileges based on current Genesis policies and procedures.  
3.    Knowledge of local streets and service area.
4.    Ability to work independent.
5.    Excellent listening, verbal and communication skills.
6.    Must be reliable and trustworthy.
7.    Flexibility in handling changes in work priorities and handles multiple tasks simultaneously.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.    Ability to sit, stand, push, pull, bend and walk for extended periods of time.  
2.    Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
3.    Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
4.    May be required to periodically rotate shifts and regular days off.  All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts as required.
